Broodscale Combo Hits 17.3% of Modern After Five Fall Regional Championships
Wizards' Metagame Mentor column says the archetype's win rate has held at 54-55% since Magic Spotlight: The Hobbit, with Azorius Chant emerging as its best answer
Modern just ran five Regional Championships in two weekends, and one archetype keeps winning anyway. Wizards' own Metagame Mentor column, published October 15, 2026 by Frank Karsten, reports that across those five events, Broodscale Combo climbed to a 17.3% metagame share with a 54.8% win rate, the most dominant deck in the format right now.
The numbers, straight from Wizards
Nearly 3,600 invited players competed across Regional Championships in the US (Los Angeles), EMEA (Ghent), Mexico/Central America/Caribbean, Canada, and Japan/Korea. Together the events handed out 100 invitations to Pro Tour Nauctis, set for February 2027. Per Karsten's column, Broodscale Combo's rise has been steady rather than sudden: 6.3% of the metagame at Magic Spotlight: The Hobbit, up to 12.6% at the cycle's first two Regional Championships, and now 17.3% across the five most recent events, with its win rate holding firm in the mid-50s the whole way (54.3%, then 55.3%, now 54.8%).
It's not uncontested. Azorius Chant posted a 59.2% win rate at 4.6% of the field and, Karsten writes, "has emerged as one of the best ways to defeat Broodscale Combo." Rakdos Delirium also had a strong debut at a 57.1% overall win rate with a slightly favorable Broodscale matchup. Karsten's advice for players heading into the next events: expect plenty of Broodscale, and plenty of people built to beat it.
Reality Fracture cards are already shaping Modern
Several Reality Fracture cards made the new-card leaderboard for the cycle: Pompous Battlemage (mostly in Izzet Prowess), Dark Matter Manipulator (fueling a 57.1%-win-rate Rakdos Delirium), Roiling Canopy (picked up by Amulet Titan players), and Twinned Vision (a two-of in Ruby Storm). That's a fast turnaround for a set that only released on October 2.
