Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek Beams In November 13 — With Real Autographs From William Shatner and Kate Mulgrew

Wizards of the Coast has beamed down its first full look at Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek, the next Universes Beyond crossover, confirming a November 13, 2026 worldwide tabletop release — timed to Star Trek's 60th anniversary — and a slate of chase cards that includes actual autographs from franchise legends William Shatner and Kate Mulgrew.

The set has been years in the making, according to lead designer Gavin Verhey, who says he's been personally shepherding the project since it was first teased at MagicCon Atlanta in 2025. Now it has a release date, a full mechanical identity, and a first wave of previewed cards spanning the franchise's decades of captains, crews, villains, and starships.

The Headliners: Real Signatures, Real Chase Cards

The marquee chase cards are seven Headliner cards bearing genuine actor autographs, found exclusively in Collector Boosters at roughly 250 copies each — always printed in English regardless of the booster's language. The first two revealed are Captain James T. Kirk, signed by William Shatner, and Captain Kathryn Janeway, signed by Kate Mulgrew. For a set built around live-action icons, pulling an actual signature out of a booster pack is the kind of collector moment that doesn't happen often in Magic.

New Mechanics: Dilemma, Assimilate, and the Return of Spacecraft

Star Trek brings a full toolbox of new and returning mechanics:

• Dilemma — rewards players for choosing modes on spells and abilities, echoing the franchise's classic no-win-scenario storytelling.
• Assimilate — lets you seize control of creatures, which become Borg artifact creatures and pick up +1/+1 counters, a direct nod to the Borg's signature menace.
• Spacecraft & Station — the Spacecraft card type returns, representing the fleet's iconic starships as artifacts that gain abilities as they accumulate charge counters and can transform into creatures.
• Federation — an ability word that rewards a table of non-Borg creature types working together.
• Stardates — a 30-card bonus sheet of reprinted Magic cards wearing new Star Trek artwork.

Collectors will also find distinct visual treatments throughout the set: 29 LCARS-frame cards echoing Starfleet's iconic console interface, 10 LCARS-frame Shock Lands, 24 classic Enterprise-themed cards, and 25 scene cards.

Four Commander Decks Lead the Charge

Rather than a straight Draft/Play Booster launch, Star Trek leads with four 100-card preconstructed Commander decks, each built around a recognizable faction:

• Federation Fleet
• Landing Party
• Klingon Fury
• We Are the Borg

Each deck packs 32 cards new to Magic. Set codes are locked in as TRK (main set), TRC (Commander), and SDS (Stardates).
