Reality Fracture's First Standard Results Are In, and No Deck Is Running Away With It
Wizards' own Metagame Mentor column puts the top archetype at just 9.0% of the winner's metagame after the set's first week
One week of tournament data is in, and Reality Fracture has not produced a single deck to be scared of. Wizards' own Metagame Mentor column, published October 8, found no Standard archetype claiming more than 9.0% of the winner's metagame from the set's first week of competitive play.
The Winner's Metagame
The analysis covers more than 250 successful tournament decks from events held between September 29 and October 5: every published Magic Online Challenge and League decklist, plus top decklists from that weekend's Regional Championship Qualifiers. The winner's metagame, archetype by archetype:
- Izzet Spellementals — 9.0%
- Dimir Midrange — 8.7%
- Jund Sacrifice — 8.5%
- Orzhov Life Gain — 8.3%
- Boros Dragons — 7.2%
- Four-Color Control — 6.4%
- Mono-Green Landfall — 5.0%
- Azorius Artifacts — 4.8%
Azorius Control (4.3%), Izzet Prowess (3.8%), and Rakdos Lizards (3.8%) round out the next tier. That's nine archetypes within five points of first place — Izzet Prowess and Rakdos Lizards, at 3.8%, sit 5.2 points back and miss the cut.
Why the Scope Matters
Wizards is explicit about where the numbers come from: successful decks only, scored by net match wins, drawn from a single week right after Reality Fracture's digital release, across three event types. That matters because "most-played" and "best-performing" are different questions, and this number blends the two: an archetype scores by putting more copies into events and by winning more matches with them.
A Healthy, Crowded Format
Wizards' own framing: "With no deck currently claiming more than ten percent of the winner's metagame, the format looks diverse and healthy." The column also notes that Reality Fracture already ranks fifth among twenty Standard-legal sets by raw card frequency in these decklists, a fast foothold for a set barely a week removed from release.
For a new set, that's about as good a first week as a format can ask for: no single archetype or card has broken the format in half, and there are at least eight viable ways to show up to a Standard event right now.
Mark Your Calendar
This is an early read. Wizards' sample window runs only through October 5, and Standard metagames typically keep moving for weeks after a set's release as players refine builds and sideboard plans. Expect this picture to shift as more Regional Championship Qualifiers get played out through October.
We don't have Reality Fracture singles on the shelf yet, so we're not going to tell you which of these eight decks to build around. But if you want to see what's actually in the set driving these numbers, the spoiler archive is the place to start: harlequinsmarket.com/spoilers.
