Reality Fracture's New Commander Deck Puts Ob Nixilis in White and Avacyn in Black
Wizards of the Coast published the full decklist for the Multiverse Reforged Commander deck on September 16, the precon that ships alongside Reality Fracture on October 2. The headline hook: familiar legends showing up in colors they have never worn before, led by a four-color Jace planeswalker who can command the whole affair himself.
A ready-to-play deck built on recolored legends
Multiverse Reforged is Reality Fracture's Commander precon, and it leans hard into the set's Echoverse premise — an artificial Multiverse of Jace Beleren's own design, which Wizards' buyer's guide calls his "magnum opus" and where he answers to the Theorist. Wizards previewed three of the deck's new legendary creatures on the announcement page, and each one swaps its usual color identity for something unrecognizable:
- Ob Nixilis, the Ascended — normally a black villain, reborn here as a mono-white {5}{W}{W} 4/4 flying Angel that destroys all tapped creatures your opponents control when it enters, gaining you 1 life for each creature destroyed that way. Keep the life total moving and it keeps paying: at the beginning of each end step, if you gained life that turn, it creates a 4/4 white Angel token with flying.
- Avacyn, Angel of Horror — the Church of Avacyn's silver-white guardian, twisted into a mono-black {5}{B}{B}{B} 8/8 flying deathtouch Angel. When she or another nontoken creature you control dies, that card returns to the battlefield under your control at the beginning of the next end step.
- Omnath, Locus of the Void — usually a green or multicolor elemental, stripped down to a colorless {7} 6/6 that gets +1/+1 for each unspent mana you have and adds {C}{C} on landfall. The line that makes the first part work is the one in the middle: if you would lose unspent mana, it becomes colorless instead, so it carries across steps and turns rather than emptying away.
As Wizards put it in the announcement: "You've seen these characters before, but you've never seen them quite like this."
The commanders
The deck ships with two traditional foil commanders in borderless art — a "face" commander and a "featured" commander. Jace, Multiverse Architect is a five-mana four-color planeswalker, {1}{W}{U}{B}{R} at 4 starting loyalty, and he explicitly reads "Jace, Multiverse Architect can be your commander." His +1 draws two cards and bottoms one from hand; his −3 exiles another creature or planeswalker you control, then digs until it hits a creature or planeswalker card and puts that onto the battlefield. He also guards himself: at the beginning of combat on each opponent's turn, that player may pay {2}, and if they don't, their creatures can't attack any Jace you control that turn.
Nissa, Leyline Tamer is a {3}{W}{U}{B}{R} 5/5 with deathtouch and vigilance whose landfall trigger draws a card — and the first time that ability resolves each turn, it also reveals cards until it finds a creature and puts it onto the battlefield free. That second half is once per turn, not once per land. Because Nissa is a legendary creature rather than a planeswalker, she needs no special text to lead the deck; any legendary creature can be a commander under the normal rules.
Look closely at the color identity on both commanders: white, blue, black and red. Nissa Revane has been a green planeswalker for her entire career, and this version of her has no green in her at all — the deck's basic lands are 4 Plains, 3 Island, 2 Swamp and 2 Mountain, and there is not a Forest in the box. She belongs on the recolored-legends list every bit as much as Ob Nixilis and Avacyn do.
Wizards' contents list for the deck: a ready-to-play 100-card deck, the two traditional foil borderless commanders, "98 Non-foil cards, including 16 new-to-Magic cards," 10 non-foil double-sided tokens, a reference card and a deck box.
One wrinkle worth knowing before you buy
Ob Nixilis, the Ascended makes 4/4 white Angel tokens — and this printing of the deck does not contain that token. Wizards flagged the substitution directly on the announcement page: this deck "includes the 3/3 blue Angel token found in Reality Fracture Play Boosters and does not include the 4/4 white Angel token created by Ob Nixilis, the Ascended." Later printings of the precon will carry the correct 4/4 white Angel, which Wizards says can also be found in Reality Fracture Collector Boosters.
Worth being precise about what that does and doesn't mean: Wizards has not said how many decks are affected, has not given a cutover date, and has not described the first printing as limited. It is a token swap in the box, not a scarcity event.
