Reality Fracture's Prerelease Window Opens September 25, a Week Before the Set's October 2 Release

Sealed events run September 25 through October 1; the set releases worldwide October 2. Tarmogoyf returns in Reality Fracture — at mythic.

Magic's next set stops being a spoiler and starts being a deck this week. Reality Fracture's Prerelease window opens September 25 and runs through October 1, one week ahead of the set's worldwide release on October 2, 2026.

Both dates come from Wizards' own Wizards Play Network schedule for the set, which lists them in the same key-dates table: Prerelease September 25–October 1, Release October 2.

What's actually in a Prerelease Pack

Wizards' player-facing Prerelease guide itemizes the pack, and it is worth reading closely because two official pages describe it at different levels of detail.

The Prerelease guide lists the contents as:

  • 6 Reality Fracture Play Boosters
  • 1 traditional foil promo card
  • 1 deck box
  • 1 Spindown die

The WPN event page, writing for stores rather than players, describes the same pack more loosely: "Players open Prerelease Packs, build decks from the six Play Boosters and included extra rare or mythic rare card, and then play!" Neither page says so outright, but that "extra rare or mythic rare card" and the traditional foil promo are almost certainly the same object named two ways — the guide's itemized list contains exactly one card outside the six boosters. That is our reading, not Wizards' statement.

You build a 40-card sealed deck from the pack plus any number of basic lands.

One detail that matters for anyone planning to buy rather than play: WPN-registered stores may begin selling the set once the Prerelease window opens. In the WPN's own words, stores "can also begin selling all products from the new set during the Prerelease week, giving you a jump on sales before the wider market release."

That is a permission granted to stores, not a guarantee that every product will be in the building — and this week Wizards drew that distinction itself.

What Wizards says may not arrive on time

On September 23 Wizards updated a separate WPN notice, Reality Fracture Product Delays in Select Regions (first published September 17), to add two more regions. It is linked from the dates-and-details page as a related article rather than folded into it, which is an easy thing to walk past.

Its summary, verbatim: "Due to production and shipping issues, select Reality Fracture products may arrive later than expected, and the exact delays vary by region."

The good news first, in Wizards' own words: "Play Boosters, Prerelease Packs, and most Collector Boosters are all on track for availability during Prerelease and release events." The Prerelease itself — the thing this article is about — is the part Wizards is most confident in. With one caveat it carries over from an earlier announcement: Play Booster availability "may be tighter through Prerelease and release events in North America."

What is not on track, by region, as the notice lists it:

  • North America — Collector Boosters, Reality Fracture Commander Decks and Foundations Commander Decks are "partially delayed"; Bundles are "delayed and may arrive after release."
  • Europe, the Middle East, and Africa — the Secret Lair Bundle is delayed and may arrive after its October 23 release; Collector Boosters are delayed and "availability will be tight leading up to and through release."
  • Japan — Collector Boosters and both Commander Deck lines are "delayed and may arrive after Prerelease events."
  • Asia-Pacific — Collector Boosters, Bundles and Reality Fracture Commander decks are delayed and may arrive after the release date (Foundations Commander Decks are not impacted). For New Zealand, the Prerelease Packs themselves are delayed: previously scheduled Prerelease events "will be cancelled automatically" and can be rescheduled for October 2–8. WPN Early Sales there still begins September 25.
  • Latin America — Collector Boosters and both Commander Deck lines are partially delayed and Bundles are delayed. For Mexico, "all Reality Fracture products are delayed until after Prerelease," with the rescheduling window still to be announced.

Wizards closes by saying it "will provide additional updates as new information becomes available." If you are in one of those regions, check with your store before you travel to an event.

How big is the set?

Scryfall lists Reality Fracture under set code FRA with 461 total printings, of which 285 are unique cards — the gap is alternate art, borderless and other variant treatments of cards already counted. Both numbers are accurate; they answer different questions, and the larger one is what Scryfall's set listing reports.

Headline mythics include The Theorist, Jace Beleren ({2}{U}{U}, Legendary Planeswalker — Jace) and Emrakul, the Exigent Doom ({10}, Legendary Creature — Eldrazi). We checked the rarity on each rather than inferring it from the price.

The reprint worth knowing about: Tarmogoyf, at mythic

Tarmogoyf appears in Reality Fracture as collector numbers 116 and 374, and both printings are mythic. That is a genuine change: the card's 2007 Future Sight original was printed at rare. Rarity is a fact about a printing, not a synonym for expensive, and this one moved.

The card does what it has always done. Its oracle text, read off the card rather than from memory:

"Tarmogoyf's power is equal to the number of card types among cards in all graveyards and its toughness is equal to that number plus 1."

A {1}{G} Lhurgoyf that sizes itself off both graveyards, in a set built around a fractured Multiverse.

On price, carefully. Our price history mirrors Scryfall's market reference, and it has the Future Sight printing at $24.08 as of September 24, 2026 — the same figure shown on our own page for that card, where it is labelled a market reference rather than a Harlequins Market price. We do not currently carry that printing. Its high across the history we hold, $24.25, was set on September 22. We are deliberately not claiming the reprint caused that move: a reprint ordinarily adds supply and pushes an original the other way, and one price series plus a plausible story is not evidence of cause. The two Reality Fracture printings are new enough that we hold no price history for them at all yet — both read "—" on that same page.

One more card worth a look for competitive players: Karn, Argent Defender (FRA #279, rare), a {2} Legendary Artifact Creature — Golem with a 1/3 body and a single line of text: "Artifacts and creatures entering the battlefield don't cause abilities to trigger." A two-mana creature that switches off enters-the-battlefield triggers is the kind of card that rearranges a format's hate slots.
