Wizards Will Rerun the Zeta Set Sale on December 9, With New Orders Shipping in the Second Half of 2027
After the Chaos Vault meltdown, Wizards is running a full second sale instead of reselling leftover inventory — and original preorder holders can still cancel through October 9.
Wizards posted a follow-up on the troubled Secret Lair x MSCHF: The Zeta Set sale, and the headline number is December 9, 2026 — the date of a full second sale window, with shipping for those new orders now estimated for the second half of 2027. Customers who already hold a confirmed preorder from the original sale can still request a cancellation, but only through October 9, 2026.
What Went Wrong
In its own words, Wizards said: "Early in the sale, the systems supporting the launch experienced an external service disruption." The strain on backend systems caused queue problems, checkout errors, and delayed confirmation emails. Matthew Hodgins, named as the decision-maker who paused the queue, acknowledged the fallout directly: "You gave us your time, you were patient, and a lot of you felt let down."
A Full Resale, Not a Restock
Rather than simply reselling whatever inventory is left over, Wizards is running a complete second sale: "On December 9, 2026, Secret Lair x MSCHF: The Zeta Set will go on sale again for a single 24-hour limited order window," with guaranteed fulfillment promised for every order placed in that window.
The catch is the wait. For orders placed in the December 9 resale, Wizards states plainly: "We estimate these orders to begin shipping in the second half of 2027." That's a long runway for a product that was originally supposed to start shipping this fall.
Two Different Shipping Clocks
It's worth separating the two groups of customers here, since they're on different timelines:
- Original sale, confirmed orders: unchanged shipping estimates of November 5, 2026 from the North America store and December 8, 2026 for Europe and the UK — unless the customer cancels by October 9.
- New December 9 resale orders: estimated to begin shipping in the second half of 2027.
The October 9 Cancellation Window
For anyone holding an original preorder who no longer wants to wait it out, Wizards' process is straightforward: "Submit a ticket here by October 9, 2026, and we'll cancel it as quickly as we can. No explanation needed." Taking no action means the order ships as originally planned.
Mark Your Calendar
- October 9, 2026 — deadline to cancel an original Zeta Set preorder, no justification required
- November 5, 2026 — estimated North America shipping for original confirmed orders (if not cancelled)
- December 8, 2026 — estimated Europe/UK shipping for original confirmed orders (if not cancelled)
- December 9, 2026 — new 24-hour resale window for anyone who wants in (or back in)
- Second half of 2027 — estimated shipping for orders placed in the December 9 resale
The Zeta Set itself — 121 reprinted cards, each with new art — is not in our stock. If you hold an order from the original sale, the date that matters to you is October 9. If you don't, it's December 9.
