Words of Worship Holds Its Peak While Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel Settles Off Preorder Prices

Our price mirror shows Words of Worship still sitting at the top of its 180-day tracked window as of October 5 — even as Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel, the new Reality Fracture Commander piece that drove the combo's popularity, has dropped from $27.79 to $4.84 in the nine days since preorder.

Our October 1 story flagged Words of Worship (Onslaught, 2002) as the top mover in our 180-day price window and named Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel — a new legendary creature in Reality Fracture Commander's "Multiverse Reforged" precon — as the card driving demand. Checking our in-house price mirror again on October 5, 2026, the two halves of that combo have gone in opposite directions, and the contrast is the story.

The Combo, Confirmed

Words of Worship reads: "{1}: The next time you would draw a card this turn, you gain 5 life instead." Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel reads, in part: "Whenever you gain life, you may pay that much life. If you do, draw that many cards." Chain them together with enough mana and you convert draws into life and life back into draws — a real, verified engine, not a rumor (oracle text pulled directly from Scryfall).

Half One: Still Climbing

Words of Worship (Onslaught #61) has not cooled off. Our mirror's first tracked snapshot, April 4, 2026, had it at $1.90; on October 5 it sat at $22.98, which is also its peak across all 184 days we have tracked it (previous peak reading was October 3, also $22.98). That's a +1109.5% move from our tracked floor to October 5 — and critically, that price is the high point, not a number down from one. This is the same card and the same read we published on October 1; nothing has reversed.

Half Two: Ordinary Price Discovery, Not a Crash

Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel (Reality Fracture Commander #10) tells a different story, and it needs careful framing. Our mirror's first snapshot for this card is September 26, 2026, at $27.79 — before Reality Fracture's October 2 release, when the only copies in the market were preorder/early copies. On October 5 it was at $4.84, a -82.6% move from that first reading. That is a thin series — 10 snapshots over 9 days — and the shape of it reads as textbook new-release price discovery, not a collapse: a scarce preorder price gave way once the precon's actual print run hit shelves after the October 2 release. It is the mirror image of Words of Worship's story, not evidence the combo stopped mattering — if anything, demand for the payoff piece (Words of Worship) has kept rising even as the new card that popularized it got easier to find.

Why Both Numbers Matter

A single-printing rare from 2002 has no new supply coming; a 9-day-old precon card does. That's the entire explanation for why one line goes up and the other goes down at the same time, off the same deck idea. Our mirror is read-only and not a live quote or our sell price — it's the market reference snapshot we track daily — but it lets us say, with an explicit as-of date, what a secondary weekly recap can't: both halves of this story, measured the same day.
