The Japanese pro closed out MagicCon: Amsterdam with a 3-0 finals win over Lorenzo Gruppi, headlined by Ka-Zar of the Savage Land and the format's first Top 8 draft in fifteen years.
Yuuki Ichikawa is a Pro Tour champion again. The Japanese pro closed out Pro Tour Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes on July 19 at MagicCon: Amsterdam with a clean 3-0 sweep of Lorenzo Gruppi in the best-of-five finals, claiming his sixth career Top Finish and third premier event trophy of the decade.
A Finals Built on Villains and Removal
Ichikawa's run leaned on a Marvel Super Heroes package built around Ka-Zar of the Savage Land — deployed twice across the event — alongside The Vision, Bullseye Death Dealer, The Ruinous Wrecking Crew, Hulk Gamma Goliath, and Hercules Prince of Power, backed by efficient removal in Repulsor Blast and Web Up. It was a controlled, grindy gameplan that outlasted Gruppi across all three finals games.
The First Top 8 Draft in Fifteen Years
Beyond the trophy, the weekend carried a genuine storyline: Pro Tour Marvel Super Heroes featured the format's first Top 8 draft in fifteen years, a format wrinkle that put every competitor's limited chops on full display in front of the Amsterdam crowd before the Constructed rounds took over.
