Wizards Cancels the Star Trek Beginner Box in Every Region, Blaming Production and Shipping Delays

"This product has been canceled in all regions." Preorder holders are sent back to their retailers, MagicCon: Atlanta's plans are being reworked — and Wizards says no other Magic × Star Trek product is affected.

Wizards of the Coast has cancelled the Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek™ Beginner Box outright. In a statement published on September 21, 2026, the company wrote: "Due to delays in production, logistics, and shipping, we will no longer be producing the Magic: The Gathering® | Star Trek™ Beginner Box. This product has been canceled in all regions."

Players who preordered one are directed to their retailer: "If you preordered a Beginner Box, contact your local game store or retailer for more information." Events that had planned to use the product are being reworked — Wizards specifically names MagicCon: Atlanta, saying "we are currently updating our plans and will share details in the future."

The rest of the set is unaffected

Wizards was explicit on this point: "No other Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek products are affected by this." The scope of that sentence is the crossover products, not the Star Trek licence in general.

Star Trek is still a November release. Wizards' own preorder page gives a release date of November 13, and the nine products it currently advertises are all still listed: Play Boosters, Draft Night, a Bundle, four Commander Decks, Collector Boosters, four Collector's Edition Commander Decks, the Beam Me Up Bundle, the Divergent Timeline Scene Box and the Enterprise-Q Scene Box. The Beginner Box does not appear anywhere on that page as of today — though we can't tell from the page alone whether it was removed or was never listed there.

What Wizards did not say

The statement is six sentences long, and one of those is "We appreciate your patience and understanding." It is worth being precise about how much of the rest is actually information:

  • It does not say how many preorders are affected, or in which regions the box had shipped furthest.
  • It does not set out a refund process of its own. It points buyers at the retailer who took the order.
  • It does not give a cause beyond the phrase "production, logistics, and shipping," and it does not connect the cancellation to any other delay.
  • It does not say the box will return later in any form. "No longer be producing" is the whole of it.

That last one matters for anyone holding a preorder as a collectible bet. This is a cancellation, not a delay, and Wizards has not described it as one that gets revisited.

The third supply problem this month

This is the third time this month that Wizards has attributed a Magic supply problem to production or shipping. On September 8 it warned that Reality Fracture Play Boosters could run short at launch, naming a Panama Canal drought as the cause. On September 11 a separate announcement said Collector Boosters and Bundles would arrive late in several regions — Wizards called that one a production and shipping delay, and called the situation "fluid." Today is the third.

Wizards has not said these situations share a cause, and we are not claiming they do: the Star Trek statement names no specific bottleneck, and the September 11 announcement was explicitly a different problem from the canal drought. But the running total is now seven product lines across two sets — Play Boosters, Omega Collector Boosters, Collector Boosters, Bundles, Secret Lair Bundles and Reality Fracture Commander decks, and now the Beginner Box. The first six were shortages or delays. This one is a cancellation.

Does this touch anything you ordered from us?

No. We do not stock any Star Trek product — not the Beginner Box, not preorders for the November set. We checked our full catalogue today rather than assume it: a sweep of all 2,402 items in our public product feed — singles and sealed alike — returns zero Star Trek matches. If you preordered a Beginner Box, it was somewhere else, and that retailer is who Wizards is pointing you to.

We'll cover the November 13 release as its cards are revealed. For now the box that was meant to be the on-ramp for new players is gone, and the set it was meant to introduce is still on schedule.
